Big Lottery Fund Grant Big Lottery Fund logo

Kidasha has been awarded a grant of £499,662 by the Big Lottery Fund for the three-year project: Improved mother and infant health in Nepal. We are delighted to receive this funding, which will enable Kidasha and its local partner, NAMUNA, to bring immediate and long-lasting improvements to the lives of tens of thousands of women and infants.

Fewer than 1 in 4 women in poor communities in Western Nepal have skilled medical care at delivery of their baby. This causes much avoidable injury, suffering and death to both mothers and children.

With Big Lottery Fund support, Kidasha and NAMUNA will increase access to essential health care through education, community participation and capacity building in 28 rural Village Development Committee areas and 2 urban municipalities in Rupandehi District, Western Nepal. Working with Women's Groups as the main vehicle for change, the project will reach 110,000 women of reproductive age and over 10,000 new-born babies per year.

Nepali Ambassador attends Kidasha launch

The official relaunch of CWS as Kidasha on Thursday 14th June was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise.

Guests at the event heard Janice Miller, Chief Executive, explain the charity's new three year strategy to reach the most disadvantaged children and young people in Nepal: improving access to healthcare for mothers and children, equality of access to education for children and young people, and protection and support for children who live or work on the street.

Kidasha will achieve this by building quality projects with local partners that will have a sustained impact for children, mothers and families at grassroots level.
